I have heard teachers make the following comment, “That’s what the parents want.” Nevertheless, what we perceive to be what parents wants does not always equal what is best their children. That is not to say that any malicious intent exists. I believe that most parents want what is best for their children. Wanting what is best for your child and knowing what is best for child is guaranteed to be a match.

Support is foundation of any effective partnerships. Our support extends beyond the needs of the children. Parents may require assistance regarding their understanding of what is developmentally appropriate for their children.  As our partners in their children’s development, it becomes out responsibility to develop parents in partners who can equally support their children’s development.

Building a strong positive relationship with your families will lead to children’s successful development. The result of which will be parents who more receptive to your advice and strategies for helping their children learn in a developmentally appropriate way.

When it comes down to it, families will look to us as the experts in what is best their child’s education. Let’s act as experts and support the families while working the meet the needs of the children.
